Gr.1 Sprinter Castle Star’s First Foals Arrive to Enthusiastic Reception
Capital Stud is proud to announce the arrival of the first foals by the Gr.1 sprinter Castle Star, with his highly anticipated offspring already making an impression with their breeders.
Castle Star’s first foal arrived in mid-January, a handsome bay colt bred by Ambrose Madden who commented “He’s a sharp strong colt, plenty big, the best foal she’s had to date”. He is out of young mare Alsultana, dam of 2 winners and Blame TheChampagne who finished fourth in the Listed First Flier Stakes at the Curragh for Ado McGuinness.
The second foal by Castle Star arrived on 28th January, a striking bay colt out of Raoufah, a daughter of Shamardal, from the esteemed Height of Fashion family. Bred by Rathnee Bloodstock, breeder Cormac O’Flynn expressed his delight, stating, “We couldn’t be more thrilled with our Castle Star colt. He’s a correct, well-marked bay with excellent size, strength, and presence.”
Castle Star’s third foal, a bay filly out Lady’s Wish who herself is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Laganore, is bred by Sam O’Rourke. The mare has had two foals, two runners and two winners. “On first impression we were impressed with her size, she is a big filly, and strong. She was very filled out, looked like a 3-day-old foal and was only 15 hours old. Lovely bay colour and very pretty with a nice head. She is very in proportion I suppose would be the best way to describe her.” said her breeder. “I was quiet surprised at how strong she was built and her size. Very pleased and will be sending mares to him this year for sure. We are looking forward to what’s to come but off to a good start by the looks of it. She was also up and standing in 10 minutes and quite lively, plenty of spirit in this one. It should be interesting to see her develop.”
By Starspangledbanner Castle Star, covered 92 mares in his first season at Capital Stud. A brilliant winner of the Gr.3 Marble Hill Stakes, he was denied a clear run on his next start in the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes where he finished a close second to Perfect Power. Out of a half-sister to Gr.3 Pinnacle Stakes winner and Gr.1 E. P. Taylor Stakes-placed Moment In Time, his grandam Horatia won the Gr.3 Matchmaker Stakes and is by Machiavellian - damsire of Mehmas, Dark Angel, Shamardal, Territories and Zoffany. Castle Star is also from the family of Gr.1 2,000 Guineas and Gr.1 Dewhurst winner Chaldean, Gr.2 Lowther Stakes winner Living In The Past, Gr.2 Mill Reef winner Alkumait, Get Ahead, The Brogie Man and Opinion Poll.
“Seeing Castle Star’s first foals on the ground is an exciting milestone,” said Ger O’Neill, of Capital Stud. “From the moment he joined the roster, Castle Star has been a pleasure to deal with and it’s fantastic to be hearing good reports on his foals at this very early stage.”
