Grade 1 Sire Martinborough Moves to Capital Stud

We are delighted to announce that Martinborough will be relocating from Haras de la Baie in France to Capital Stud’s Kilkenny base in Ireland.

Martinborough, a son of the legendary Deep Impact, has made a name for himself both on the track and at stud. A proven source of stamina, versatility, and soundness, he is noted for producing athletic offspring with excellent jumping ability and longevity, making him a perfect fit for National Hunt breeders.

His most notable progeny to date include Majborough, the 2024 Triumph Hurdle winner, trained by Willie Mullins. Majborough displayed exceptional class throughout the season, culminating in his dominant performance at Cheltenham and his trainer has flagged him as a potential Gold Cup contender. After his Triumph Hurdle victory Mullins commented “He’s a chaser… When he came into the yard and they said he was our Triumph Hurdle horse, I couldn't believe it. I said I thought he looked like a Gold Cup horse.”

Mullins’ son Patrick also commented recently in the Racing Post “Majborough could follow in Djakadam's steps as a juvenile hurdler who could make into a Gold Cup horse. He fills the eye and what he achieved last season was mind-blowing for the kind of horse he is.”

Martinborough’s progeny are known for their excellent temperaments, durability, and scope with other top performers including Listed hurdle winners Mika D’O, Edwina and Le Garlaban; Listed-placed hurdler Inspace and talented chasers Stellomaker, Lion Kirikou and Into The Moon. Not to mention his talented performers on the flat which include Elusive Princess – winner of the Gr.3 Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes and runner-up in the Gr.1 Prix Saint Alary at Longchamp.

"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Martinborough to Capital Stud. We had been keeping an eye on him for a while and are delighted to have secured him. His pedigree and proven stud record make him an ideal addition to Capital Stud. His progeny have shown exceptional ability, and we are confident he will continue to produce quality horses. We are committed to giving him the best opportunity to flourish here in Ireland." Ger O’Neill

The deal to secure Martinborough was brokered by John Dwan and Nicky de Belande. Details regarding his fee and opportunities to view Martinborough will be announced at a later date.
